A Wish For 2012

You know I'm a big believer in goals. I have a goal for this month to write at least 50 pages. After losing all writing momentum in December I really need something to get  me moving again.

But goals are nothing without the motivation to achieve them. I believe that motivation comes from what you wish for. What you dream about. What you want so badly you'd do anything for it.

So, instead of talking about New Year's Resolutions, I'm asking you to make a wish instead. I think the reason we fail at resolutions is because we don't really care enough to make them work. But if we wish for something, wish for it with all our hearts, then we do what it takes to make it happen.

What is your wish in 2012? Do you wish to see yourself on the NYT Bestseller List? To get an agent? To finish a book? To start one?

Take a minute and think about what you really wish for this year. Write it down and keep it where you'll see it often. Believe that you can have your wish.

Then set some goals that will bring you closer to your wish. Hopefully, with your dearest wish in mind, the goals will be easier to keep.

My wish for 2012? I wish to get two books published this year. I know one of them will be, but I'd like to get the second book out there this year too.

That's my wish. What's yours?

I hope 2012 is the year when your wishes come true!

You are so right!! You've got to have the REASON - the wish - that motivates you! Will power alone will fail you, but WHY power always comes through!

Good luck on your goals! I am so proud of you!

I want to get an agent, and put 600,000 word behind me. (I'm doing NaNoWriMo every month this year)

I wish I could live in my hermit hole and just write :)

But since that is not realistic my REAL wish is to find a balance between work, play, and family in my life.

What a beautiful way of looking at things. I like it a lot! Not sure what my wish for 2012 would be. My big over-arching wish. I think maybe it would be to live more. Be in the moment more.

Yeah I know I talked about that a LOT in 2011, but I'm just not there yet. And I really, really want to be.

Happy New Year Angie!

My wish is to be able to get a collection of short stories I'm working on published, and to get my YA novel to the point were I can send it to publishers.

Awesome, T! Keep me posted, okay?

Tyrean, good luck with your book!

Good luck with yours too, JoLyn. I am thinking about Relief Society stories right now.

I wish I could get a short story published in 2012.

Subgoals must include: come up with a good plot. Write. Polish. Submit. I think the first goal will be the hardest because I feel so empty inside, except for the currently weak desire to write. Something. Anything. But if I keep thinking about it, who knows what could happen?

Great wish Angie. And I love the idea of having wishes instead of resolutions. I think you've got something there. ;)

My wish is to get my book to the agent who is so patiently waiting. ;) *fingers crossed*

Keep going, Melanie. You'll find that story!

Great post. Goals we cannot achieve aren't really goals at all--they're dreams. Like when you dream that someday you'll visit Hawaii or Tahiti. They must be achievable. If you've set yourself a dream, you need to break it down into achievable steps. Those, then, become your goals.

lol I'm such a goal person. You can't tell, I'm sure.

I'd love to sell a book this year. Who knows, right? Completely out of my control, but I can wish. :) And I really want to write and finish 3 books this year. Here's hoping I can do it!

My wish is to grow and learn as a writer as I move toward my March publication date. Happy New Year to you, and Happy Writing too :)

"Wish" does sound so much better than "resolution." And when I hear it, I think of that song, "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes." And then I feel all cheery. Which is kind of freaky for me.

Here's to wishing! *cheers*
